Laney McDonald
Editor-in-Chief
Born and raised in Bend, Laney is passionate about telling stories that shape her hometown. When she’s not chasing down leads, she’s exploring the food scene, watching indie films, or spending time outdoors.
Nica Broadman
Staff Writer
Nica Broadman is a senior at Bend High. You can often find her either working at a local Italian restaurant, cheering in the front row of the Bend High student section, or drowning in her hours of homework. In her free time, she loves to ski, read, cook, and spend time with her friends and family.

Hazel Seasholtz is a new writer at The Obsidian. She tends to spend the majority of her time in nature and leads the Bend Senior High Environmental Club. While journalism is new to Hazel, she is looking forward to using it as a way to understand her community on a deeper level.
Sage Erickson
Staff Writer
You’d be hard-pressed to find Sage without earphones and music somewhere nearby. Constantly with a new interest and an unfinished book, Sage is super excited to be able to contribute her writing to The Obsidian. Sage loves black coffee, politics and probably needs a nap. Like, badly.
Nathan Shein
Staff Writer
Nathan Shein is an up-and-coming journalist and chronic reader of the news. When he isn’t pondering current events (a rare sight), Nathan can be found playing video games, listening to music or writing about god knows what. Or sleeping. Usually sleeping.
Leo Puckett
Staff Writer
Leo Puckett is a beginning journalist at The Obsidian but is already excited and passionate about what's ahead of him. In his free time you’ll probably find Leo on a hiking trail in Bend with his camera in his hand. With a love for writing and filmmaking, Leo seeks to bring a cinematic eye and genuine curiosity to every story.
Sam Roise
Staff Writer
This teen’s definitely got spirit, and while she's not modeling for the camera, she's looking for new ways to improve her own photography and writing skills through journalism. Some might take advantage of Sam’s energetic and playful composure, but when she’s got a story to share, you best believe she’ll craft it so cleverly you won’t realize you’ve been hooked until the very last line. After all, it takes true beauty and sharp brains to turn observation into art.
